The Round Sark and Herm Race - 29th July 2006
tacKtic won the round Sark and Herm Race on 29th July - for the second time.
The Round Sark and Herm Race took place on the 29th July with a Southerly force 3. tacKtic was slightly short of crew with only 6 people (John, Sam, Paul, Kenny, Susannah and Claire) and out of those six a couple were slightly worse for wear.
As it was a Saturday and a long distance race the turn out was not that good with only 4 boats starting. tacKtic lined up on the start line with Dreamtime, Less Expense and Wicked Feet. Luckily the start line was emptyish as Claire was practising her helming, she managed not to hit anything and we had a good start and off we went to Anfre.
Around Anfre tacKtic was in a good position with Dreamtime in front and the other boats behind. We had a long close hauled leg past lower heads and to the end of Sark, throughout which Claire was told off by various members of the crew for pinching a number of times. tacKtic stayed close to Dreamtime and managed to gain a little when we decided to tack away from Sark rather than to go inshore and we rounded the south of Little Sark just behind Dreamtime. It was too tight to get the spinnaker up straight away, but once we were able to bear away and head for Grande Amfroque, the spinnaker went up. Claire decided that she wanted a little rest from helming and gave the wheel back to John. The wind had picked up by now and as Dreamtime was having trouble with their kite this allowed tacKtic to make big gains. Wicked Feet where flying with their spinnaker up and managed to overtake tacKtic. We went around Grande Amfroque and headed down to the finish line on a close reach.
Dreamtime took line honours, then Wicked Feet shortly followed by tacKtic and Less Expense finished last. The corrected time showed tacKtic in first (yey!!) then Dreamtime, Less Expense and Wicked Feet. tacKtic has managed to win The Round Sark and Herm race both times she has entered!!
Well Done Everyone!!!
