Guernsey-Alderney Carey Olsen Pursuit 2009
By Kate Dawson
We set out on a wet and windy Saturday. We were soaked through before even leaving SPP! After switching to the larger genoa we maintained approx 7.5 most of the way to Alderney. Jenny on winches, John on Helm, Sam and Rob on foredeck, Gerald on navigations and I on Main.
As we arrived in Alderney the rain stopped and we headed over to a well earned dinner and the presentation. As the night drew in we all headed to The Divers to continue the revelry...It was at this point that we lost some of the less "hardcore" party goer members of the crew. The remaining crew headed onward to the Quarry Party where a huge bonfire of pallets burned and a DJ played 70s hits all night. There was plenty of dancing and much more drinking until eventually we called it a night and headed back to the boat/AYC.
Early on the fabulously sunny Sunday morning we (the crew fit enough to sail) sailed back to Guernsey, whilst the rest of the crew slept off the previous night's activities and arrived back in time for a hearty lunch in the GYC. A great weekend had by all...despite the hangovers on the Sunday!
